EngenderHealth, formerly AVSC International, is a nonprofit organization working internationally and in the United States to support and strengthen health care services, particularly those needed by womenthe largest group of health care consumers worldwide. Our headquarters is in New York City, however nearly two-thirds of our staff are based in field offices in 30 countries on five continents.
EngenderHealth works worldwide to improve the lives of individuals by making reproductive health services safe, available, and sustainable. We provide technical assistance, training, and information, with a focus on practical solutions that improve services where resources are scarce. We believe that individuals have the right to make informed decisions about their reproductive health and to receive care that meets their needs.
We partner with national health systems, international and local nongovernmental organizations, universities and multilateral agencies. We work with global policy-setting agencies, such as the World Health Organization, the United Nations Population Fund and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We are supported by government development agencies in the U.S. and Europe, 50 foundations, and the donations of thousands of private individuals.
EngenderHealth has traditionally led the nonprofit sector in technology innovations, being among the first agencies to develop a web site, to develop an intranet to manage internal information exchange, and to overcome significant obstacles in connecting offices in low resource developing countries. These accomplishments led to a widening array of requests from other nonprofit agencies for technical assistance, and ultimately to the creation of NinthBridge as an enterprise of its own, dedicated to serving the technology needs of nonprofit agencies.
